Day To Night Eye Looks Feat. Narsissist Dual Intensity Eyeshadow Palette (Video)

Hey guys! I thought I'd make a video using the new Nars palette featuring their dual intensity shadows! If you want to see my full thoughts on the palette you can read it here!

NARSissist Dual Intensity Eye Shadow Palette Review & Swatches

You know me, I jump at just about any product Nars releases, and surprisingly when the Dual Intenisty eyeshadows were released last year I didn't immediately jump into action and grab them. I think because at heart I am a palette lover, sure I do own a few single shadows but it's always a palette I reach for because it doesn't offer one, it offers many. Low and behold, a year after the Narsissist palette was released for their standard shadows, the Dual Intensity palette landed itself onto shelves a couple of weeks ago.

The NARSissist Dual Intensity Eyeshadow Palette retails for £45

Top L-R: Europa, Himalia, Ursa Major, Subra. Bottom L-R: Andromeda, Lysithea, Giove, Sycorax.

L-R: Europa dry, Europa wet, Himalia dry, Himalia wet.

L-R: Andromeda dry, Andromeda wet, Lysithea dry, Lysithea wet.

L-R: Ursa Major dry, Ursa Major wet, Subra dry, Subra wet.

L-R: Giove dry, Giove wet, Sycorax dry, Sycorax wet.

Let's talk about them dry first, the pigmentation does seem a little on the sheerer side and at times a little hard to blend, but the lighter shades blended all together on the lid make a great day or simple evening look - check out my new vid to see them all together! However I can't see me using Sycorax, Giove or Subra dry. Speaking about dryness, although the brush included is called the wet/dry eyeshadow brush, particularly with this shadow, I will be reserving it for when I decide to use the shades wet, it's not that it's a bad brush I just find it's easier to use your standard 217-esque fluffy brushes. To some this may seem obvious, but the wetter the brush the higher the intensity and the easier it is to sweep the colour over the lid, I've been using MAC's Fix+ which I find works well with these shadows, and I like to load the brush up with the shadow first and then spritz away. I feel this is when the shadows truly come to life and you can create some really dramatic looks. Bar the couple light shades, I would consider this more of a night time palette - I like to use a flat sided brush to pat the shades on and blend the shades together, however I think having a large dry fluffy brush on hand to get rid of any harsh lines would be wise. I do think all the shades in the palette work well on their own but they're also great to create a multitonal smoky eye. These are not for the faint hearted, nor do I think this is a great first palette, however if you're someone like me who enjoys playing with make up and you have your basics covered in the shadow department I think these are something different and can be fun!

Do you need this palette? No. Do I like it? Yes. I know this isn't something I will be whipping out on a daily or even weekly basis, but I do think I will use this when I'm stuck for time and need to get ready in a flash, these shadows wet pack a serious punch and with a spritz of Fix+ you can seriously go from desk to disco in seconds. All shades bar Ursa Major are in the permanent line so if you wanted one as your instant party eyes back up, there's a myriad to choose from. I think this is a great palette, but at £45 I can't wholeheartedly say it's necessary in your collection.

MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus Lipstick Review

If you've been a reader of this blog for a while, you'd know that I'm a big champion for the Viva Glam campaign which MAC runs - I'll leave a post where I chat about that here. 2015 brought us a new famous face of VG - the ever controversial (and, in my humble opinion, ever fabulous) Miley Cyrus. When I heard Miley was fronting the new VG lippy, I had visions of it being that bright, vivid red that frequents her lips, but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it was in fact a hot pink - a colour which I don't have dozens of in my collection, so on release day I marched myself down to the MAC concession and picked this sucker up, so here's what I think:

This lipstick falls into the 'amplified' finish by MAC - think satin, but seriously pigmented. This means you get a really smooth application which isn't too glossy (although if you fancy it glossy, there's a gloss to accompany the lipstick) and a colour packs one serious punch. The colour itself is bright, but not too highlighter-esque and I do think this will look great on pretty much any skintone, from the palest of pale to the deepest of deep, I think this shade will add a pop of colour and not look out of place on anyone's lips. I've worn this out for a big ol' burger, and although the lipstick did fade, it left behind a beautiful, even stain and due to the brilliant quality and smoothness of the lipstick, reapplying is a breeze minus all that tacky build-up you sometimes get with lipsticks.

Overall I think this is a fantastic lipstick with a great cause behind it. If you're looking for something to brighten these gloomy winter days or want something for Summer - then I think this would be a great pick! I'm not usually a pink girl, and I wouldn't say I'm completely converted but I can definitely see myself reaching over my sea of red lipsticks and picking this to shake things up a bit. Whether you're a gigantic Miley fan or not, you can't deny a great charity and a pretty pink lip so what have you got to lose?! Consider this a good deed and a wee indulgence all in one. P.S. ever heard Miley's version of Lilac Wine? I've had it on repeat whilst I've been tapping away and I think you ought to give it a listen.

You a big Miley fan?

My Two Cents On The Konjac Sponge

A few months ago beauty bloggers last and right were tossing their muslin cloths and Clarisonics to the wayside in favour on a new Asian beauty trend - the konjac sponge. Marketing itself as an all natural sponge which gently exfoliates and you can use with or without your cleanser, it sounded like a great little addition to your beauty regime, and as someone who has been interested in the Foreo Luna Mini - I thought chucking this in my basket on Cult Beauty would help me see whether or not I would actually use something like it without dropping a hundy to find out, so here's what I think:

I opted for the konjac sponge infused with bamboo charcoal, which is suited best for oily/combo skin types like mine, and when I took it out of the packet I was surprised to feel that it was sort of wet and squidgy before even popping it under the tap, after rinsing it and squeezing out the excess (not ringing so it doesn't tear) I first of all tried it on my skin without any cleanser, and it did remove some, but not all of my make-up. I find when using this with a cleanser (balm cleansers work particularly well) I massage the cleanser into my face first, and then using the dampened konjac sponge to work the product on and take it off. If you're someone like me who manages to get not only your forearms but your entire bathroom floor wet when rinsing off during a wet cleanse, you will find these incredibly helpful. Sad but true, the mess I made in the bathroom is what used to always deter me from wet cleansing, but this helps me to take off my cleanser without looking like I powerbombed into a swimming pool. This sponge leaves my skin feeling clean but soft at the same time. I tend to just use a wet cleanser at night, however I have even taken to using the konjac sponge with no cleanser on in the morning to wake myself up and take off that layer of grime which accumulates over night miraculously. If you leave it to dry and don't use it for a couple of days, it becomes quite hard, but if you leave it under the tap for a little bit it's as good as new! Unfortunately you can't keep hold of these forever but if you look after it well, you can keep them for a good couple of months, meaning their cost per month really isn't that steep!

Overall, my experience with the konjac has been a good one, I actually use it on a regular basis and I'm wet cleansing a lot more than ever! The next time I place an order with Cult Beauty I'm going to pick up another one, so I think a repurchase is a good sign! Although this product may seem a little faddy, I assure you it is a good little investment in your skin, and I even think if I end up splashing out on a Foreo, I'll have one of these standing by!

American Beauty/American Psycho

So six days after I rung in the New Year and posted all about my New Year's Resolutions I jetted off to the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. I don't want to bore you too much with it, seeing as if you're up to date with me, you'd have seen three vlogs, a photo diary and constant whitterings on social media all about my 12 days in New Jersey. But here's my one last hurrah in the form of my Instagram Update! I'll be frank with you, the rest of January was just a blur but those 12 days were probably one of the best decisions I have made in a while. So what did I do that I didn't vlog? Well, we watched the Lizzie Maguire Movie twice, and we almost went for the hat trick. I drank a XXL bottle of White Zinfandel in one sitting, which is an extreme rarity for me. I ate sushi in New York City whilst drinking $2 beers, all the while tricking those around me that I was a natural with chop sticks. I got the seed of returning in May planted in my head by a security guard in the Met. I learned all about the Jersey Devil and the Tick-Tock Diner, and made so many more fantastic memories that I couldn't possibly list them all. If there is one thing in this post I'd like to impart onto you, is that it's really great to go and see your friends. There doesn't have to an ocean between you, but I've been the type of person to say 'no, thanks' and stayed in and watched Netflix. Netflix can wait, but your life will not and the older I get the more I realise that keeping the bonds with the people you care about strong is paramount to a happy life. It's okay to reach out, and I encourage you to do so.

Well, that took a philosophical turn, I hope January treated you fabulously and the rest of 2015 comes up Milhouse for ya'.

The Boujois Beauty'Full Dark Kohl Mascara - a They're Real Dupe

We're almost at the end of January, a month where our pockets chock full of mothballs and not a lot else, so I thought for the remainder of this month I'd show you one of my favourite dupes - starting off with mascara! I don't think I've heard a bad word said against Benefit's They're Real - it's a fantastic mascara which builds and builds and defies clump, however every time I invest in a tube the price creeps up and up, and it's RRP currently sits at a steep £19.50. I'd like to present you with what I consider one serious dupe which not only has a similar brush but a kickass formula and is a purse pleasing £7.99 - it's Bourjois' Beauty'Full Dark Kohl Mascara.

L-R Benefit's 'They're Real' Wand, Bourjois' Dark Kohl Wand

Let's start with the brush - there are a few similarities, first off they're both that spikey plastic brush and both sport ends with bristles which you can use to accentuate your outer lashes and although the length and shape of the brushes are different, I feel if you love the Benefit brush, you'll love this one just as much. I feel the formulas also must be similar as the Bourjois mascara allows you to keep on wiggling that brush and building those lashes without things getting mega clumpy, although I will point out it's a darn sight easier to get off which is a big bonus in my books. I'm a lash curler and this mascara holds a curl like a dream, and I honestly haven't got a bad thing to say about it! I've spent the past couple of days wearing a mascara on each eye and I can honestly say I prefer Bourjois' offering, which is high praise. It does everything They're Real does, it's solves my one gripe that I have with They're Real, which is that it comes off, and it's a third of the price!

Basically, what I'm saying save yourself £12 and pick up this instead. I bring you this dupe in lieu of Benefit's new mascara release, The Roller Lash, a similar brush still, however it's curved. Although I'm not going to in all guns blazing and buy it on release date, however I am going to pick up Elle which have a sample with their March issue (released on the 29th of January) and I reckon y'all should be savvy too and get yourself a deluxe sample too!
