How To Work Summer Trends!

When each season rolls around, new trends hit the clothes rails and it can all be rather overwhelming. Many sources tell you those must-have items and what you need to be seen in so without trebling the size of your wardrobe and leaving yourself completely and utterly skint, here's a few of my tips to get through a season.

Sunglasses: New Look, Lace Cropped Tank: H&M, Red Floral Dress: Minkpink @ UO, Floral Circle Skirt: UO

Don't Lose Yourself
I think the most important thing with fashion is not lose yourself or your own sense of style in all of it. It's the classic saying 'If Topshop asked you to jump off a cliff, would you do it?' - the answer is (I'd like to think) no, and although a little drastic, if a website, magazine or company are throwing in your face the most disgusting mish mash of trends - don't buy it - leave it on the hanger. Out of the 5 or 6 big trends each season, acknowledge the ones you may already incorporate into your style/the ones already in your wardrobe, and maybe invest in a few other pieces that you'll know you'll wear regardless if they're at the height of fashion or not. For me, this is going to be orange based reds and lace - both things I already own and wouldn't mind adding to my wardrobe and taking advantage at them being widely accessible.

Take A Trip Down Memory Lane
A lot of trends, particularly S/S ones, repeat themselves or vary slightly. No one is going to call you unfashionable if you're wearing florals, rest assured. Before splashing out on a whole new wardrobe, dig through your current one and rediscover those gems which you rocked last summer and reinvent them with accessories - easy peasy and a whole lot cheaper.

Be Sale Savvy
It's currently summer sale season, and this can be the making or breaking of you and your bank. Does a sale demon crawl inside you and tell you NEED that (insert thing here) only for it to grow dust in a drawer? Don't worry - I've met him too and he's bloody annoying. So what if that shirt is half price - if it's still fugly - don't get it. Equally, if you have the time and patience you can find some real corkers in a sale. I always feel online is your best bet, but don't rule your local store out if your size isn't available online. One of my favourite places to sale shop is Urban Outfitters - I won't shell out £28 for a faux distressed band tee - but for a tenner?- You have a deal!

I hope this has helped you a little bit in the very daunting world of fashion - I'm certainly no fashion queen but I try to stay on top of trends whilst staying true to myself and my style in the process! This is my first fashion post and I'm thinking about an impromptu OOTD every now and again - what do you guys think?! Let me know down in the comments!
